Taking A Trip
You find yourself in a lucid dream, journeying towards a lake whose
surface reflects like a mirror, in a perfect hole carved out of the earth.
Distant echoes of laughter intertwine with the low hum of the island’s
lighthouse, as Finnish sailors sing Swedish drinking hymns. The “art of storytelling” can take many different forms and embody many actions for us as both storytellers and readers/viewers. It is language, it is words and actions, sounds and images, an act of performance, a form of bonding with others, an experience that draws us into another time and space.
In this issue of Listening Party, we invite you to travel with us. Dan Riley’s story and Jeannine Han’s collages takes us on a psychedelic trek to Chan Isladore Moabee Point. It’s a read-along, so be sure your tape is queued up before turning to the next page. For the second half, Matt and I have woven a narrative filled with textural sounds and images from our time in Finland this past summer. Wherever these pages take you, we hope it will be somewhere other than where you are now.
