Space Is The Place
Environments through which we pass, and the minute details that catch our eye. Rooms where we sit, eat, read, sleep, talk. A home. Looking into a window. Or out of a window. Light refracted through a glass object, casting shadows that communicate through calligraphy strokes. Interior/exterior.
We’ve been huge fans of Maryanne’s work ever since discovering it a
couple years ago, moved by her poetic observations found in every day life. We are excited to have her participate in this third installment of ‘Listening Party’. In this issue, we reflect on the familiar and often mundane aspects of our daily rituals, the spaces that these acts inhabit, and the personal discoveries that transpire as a result.

Maryanne Casasanta is a photo-based artist working in video, installation, performance and print media. Her work considers the relationships between art and home, art and life, home and studio, and the interstitial space between image and object. Photographic documents of small gestures, subtle interventions, and material constructions move in the universe of the everyday. Common artifacts are re-imagined as a way to transform a routine experience, promoting an active immersion in, and reconsideration of, small, ordinary events. Maryanne lives and works in Toronto.
